Can you tell us some dates and places?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hello kjmoore

Yes, I have a tree that starts with William Mathieson who married Mary Mackie in August 1743.

Until earlier this week I thought it was the correct line for my ancestors, however by checking with the 1841 census, I realised that George's son Alexander had either a brother or cousin named John Mathieson who married Mary Mortimer 11 November 1818.

Alexander married Christian Kemp, date I don't have and they had 8 children all born in Oyne. My tree now stops at that point.

If you have George (1744 to 1820) having more sons than just Alexander (1789 to 1870) I would be most interested as I have been attempting to trace John and Mary in recent days.

Cheers
Ian
