Hi,
How did you get back to Edward and Mary?  Presumably you know at least one of their children?
There is a baptism at Cuckfield for a possible daughter Dorothy  15 March 1734/35.  Remember the year ended in March at that time.  The calendar changed to Jan - Dec in 1752.  Also a son Edward 29 May 1737.  He appears to have died in 1805 age 67 and was a bricklayer, as were many of the Norris men.
Norris is a popular name in Cuckfield so finding a birth for the first Edward may be problematic.  I can see two possibilities in 1707 and 1709 with different parents.   When I have a moment I will check the original records to see if they hold more details.

Hello. Thanks for your reply.
Edward Norris was my husband's 5th Great Grandfather. He and his wife Mary died in 1769 and were buried together in a stone vault. By permission of the Home Secretary the vault was opened 100 years later to receive the remains of their Great Grandson,Edward. Edward (snr) was baptised on 25 Nov 1709 in Cuckfield Sussex. I presume he was also buried there and am wondering if there is an inscription on the vault that may have any more information on it.

Do you have any idea where the vault is?   I assume it is in the original churchyard rather than the parish cemetery but it might take some time to find.  A local undertaker, P&S Gallagher, hold the plans for all the graves so it might be worth contacting them.   http://www.pandsgallagher.co.uk/

The Edward baptised in 1709 is the son of Thomas and Katherine.  According to the record for one of their other children in 1700 Thomas is a Mason by profession.  They also have Thomas bap 1691, John bap 1693/4, William 1696, Richard bap 1700, Jeremiah 1703/4 and Benjamin 1706.  Do those names carry on in the family?    One of the earlier children shows Thomas as a bricklayer.  Have not found any girls yet!
Thomas Norris married Katherine Dawes 6 May 1690 at Cuckfield.
Catherine Norris is buried in Cuckfield in 1777.
If they had a vault they must have been well off.  Any wills to help?

Worth looking at this site too.  Mandy Willard has done a lot of local research
