Hanmer Parish records. Some destroyed by fire.
« on: Wednesday 15 May 13 19:57 BST (UK) »
Hi, ive been tracing my grandmothers family the Broads, who lived the Hanmer, Flintshire area in the 1800s. Ive gotten back to John and Mary Broad who i have found in records of their two childrens baptisms. Elizabeth 23/02/1800 and John 24/07/1803.
I understand that some records just before 1800 (i think a period of about 10 years) were destroyed in a fire, and there are no Broads in the parish in the earlier surviving records.
I suspect John was from Cheshire as there are a few in that county.
Can anyone think of any way i could get further back with this?

Hi Tom,its been a while since we were in touch!This explains what happened during the fire;

Yes its just a very sad state of affairs really.Of course if you are working with a known local family it is possible to make an "educated guess".

Well Tom,the births for Hanmer are still intact,it is the marriages that are what were destroyed in the fire.

Apparently the Family Search have a microfilm copy available of a list of marriages for the period 1563 to 1837. Have you tried this?

I have a Thomas Lee who I believe was married in Hanmer c1790 and have been unable to find as yet.

Hi William,

Not a lot to tell about Thomas Lee. My connection to him is through his daughter Mary who was baptised in 1800 at Hanmer and married Richard Pierce in 1825 at Overton.

To date I have the children of Thomas and Mary Lee as: Mary, Ester, Thomas, Jane, Mary, William and Anne.

The 1841 census has a Thomas and Mary Lee both aged c75 living in Tybroughton. I cannot find their marriage which presumably was in that part of the register destroyed.
