Marston Trussell,Gardiner family
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 09:16 BST (UK) »
Hello Northamptonshire Board

It seem that the John Gardiner I am searching for was married in Marston Trussell 30Th June 1799
to a Elizabeth Chapman, both of the parish .

Would it be possible for some kind person to help me find out more about these families a bit futher back in Northamptonshire?.

They move to Kibworth Beauchamp and Harcourt in Leicestershire around 1804 have a family there, then disappear for the 1841 census,I have a death for John in 1847 in Market Harborough Workhouse, but nothing for Elizabeth.

I have 2 Wedding certificates for their eldest child Thomas Chapman Gardiner ,on the first in 1840
father is listed as a Gent,on the second in 1868 father is listed as deceased former Labourer, which is quite a career change!,but fits in with the Workhouse death.

any help greatly appreciated

Paul

Hi Paul.

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

I wondered if you could say how old John was when he died.

There are a couple of baptisms in Marston, but it would make
them both in their 40's at marriage.

Sorry yes that would be a good idea, doh!

According to the burial records John Gardiner was 70 in 1847 which would  make him being born in 1777,and he would be 22 for his wedding.

I have nothing for Elizabeth unfortunately as they both seem to have avoided the 1841 census.

Sorry about the lack of information before.

Paul

Not a problem Paul.

On the Northants Marriage Indexes there is this entry which is close to Marston.

Middleton Cheney     By License

13-Oct 1772
John GARDINER otp, bachelor & Ann JEFFS otp, widow

One to keep in mind.

Hi again Paul.

I have just looked at the original Marriage Certificate.

Pg. 9, No. 64       By Licence.

John Gardner, otp, Bachelor and Elizabeth Chapman, of the same, Spinster
Both signed their names clearly.

Witnesses: Wm Chapman and Ann ? (hard to read but does not seem like a relative.)

Thank you for your invaluable work.
Looks very much like you have located Johns parents for me that is excellent work.

On the Leicestershire side of this Query, they have come up with a Mary Gardiner who marries in Kibworth in 1801 which would probably make her birth around 1780ish and potentially a sister to John who is born as we know (thanks to you) in 1776 is there any chance you could have a look for her in Northants?

Thanks
Paul

p.s

I see you have written again while I was writing this
...... a William Gardiner,possibly a father or brother?,interesting.

Thanks again
Paul
