Robert Waite Cowham b 1889 NY
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 12:16 BST (UK) »
I am  trying to trace the birth of Robert and his mother.

All I have is from the 1910 census in Onondago NY in 1910 and his death in 1939 in that county.
His mother is Eliza b 1864 NY married to William Tall/Tell, who was from England.

Robert is listed as step son to William and I am wondering if Eliza was married to a Cowham before this marriage to him, which would  link her to my Cowhams from Lincolnshire and who emigrated to NY.

Any help woul be appreciated.

Regards,
Margaret

I think you mean Onondaga County, NY, not Orondago.  It looks like the town that they lived in was Clay, New York.  It also looks like his birth date was 1889, not 1899.

Here is his WWI Draft Registration Card - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KXBQ-S9D

Here they are in the 1920 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MV9M-JB7

Robert seems to be listed as Keller in the 1900 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MS2G-Z4S

Many thanks for your reply. I have corrected my mistakes!!

I would really like to find his birth and also the marriage of Eliza to William. Hopefully that will help me with my search.

There doesn't appear to be any records showing for that in Ancestry.

Regards,
Margaret

Most New York births are not online.  The WWI draft registration card gives the date and place if you wanted to order it.

There are articles about Robert's death on www.fultonhistory.com.  One says that he accidentally discharged a gun when going after a woodchuck, and one makes it sound like a suicide.  He was reported to be survived by mother Mrs. Eliza Tall, sister Hazel Tall, and an uncle Charles Naylor of Baldwinsville.

Also on the Fulton History site is a letter from Mrs. Eliza Cowham in the Baldwinsville, NY Gazette & Farmer's Journal from 18 Sep. 1890.  She is expressing thanks to an insurance agent for kind treatment regarding the policy of her late husband William Cowham, who was accidentally killed on September 9.
