Hi,

I've found 3 entries on a passnger list for Jessie Trew, sailing to Marseilles in 1929, 1930 and 1932.  Shown as hotel proprietor and giving the Melbourne, Ethelbert Cresent as her address and always sailing 1st class.

Hi Nanny Jan,

Thanks so much and your time for the useful info on the passenger list, and i'm not surprised she travelled 1st class, Jessie was well off.

Would you know on the passenger list, does it state her place of birth.

I really do think this Jessie is my great aunt, but for some reason she changed her name and went by a spinster.

Regards

There's no mention of the middle names of Laurie Vigurs anywhere though :-\

Have you managed to find any sign of Jessie's children after the 1911 census?

Amongst the number of travels made across the ocean by Mrs Gertrude FORSYTHE there is the following:

Gertrude FORSYTHE destined for Montreal, graduate nurse last address in the UK c/o Mrs J FOY, 28 Sydenham Drive, Belfast returning to Canada leaving on the "Torr Head" 15 Sep 1940.

Could that possibly rule out Jessie TREW being her daughter?

Have you looked for an obituary for Gertrude to see what family are mentioned there (if there was one of course)?

Hi Casalguidi,

Thanks so much for the useful info i think you have cleared a few possibillities, and now for sure this Jessie Trew isn't her daughter.

I remember my mother say to me around the war time, she went to Belfast with her mother, to her Jessie's house in Sydenham Drive, one of Jessie's sons named Cecil was a mute, but was fantastic playing one of the music instruments.

Yes, i found Jessie's child, after the 1911 census, her name was also Jessie, Jessie Foy born 1913 Belfast.

Thankyou

Hello Gary -
Gertrude Forsythe is my husband's great great grandmother.  Violet Marguerite Forsythe is his Mother's mom. Violet's youngest son is the last of her 4 children living - he is 83 yrs and resides in Toronto.  We are excited you are connected via Helena.  Hoping to hear back from you.  We are new to Roots.chat today and beginners at messaging. Hi.
Jessie trew owned the hotel “ Melbourne “. Still stands to this day.at some stage it changed to apartments.and that’s how I new it as.Jessie trew was my Nan as I new her.and she had a live in helper called lomax, from London.whom I knew as lolo.
All the apartments was taken with American airforce men.who served at manston .they also had there families with them as well.
Possibly the person you are thinking of was a family member to come to live there also.i wouldn’t know there names as I was only a youngster then.but Jessie and lomax lived in the basement apartment.
