Mary Ann Bowell
« on: Sunday 19 May 13 17:52 BST (UK) »
Bowell is Mary Anns married surname. She was born approx. 1825 in Wells and married Edmund Bowell in June qtr. 1844. They had 2 children Sidmund and Edmund and lived with his father Joseph at first. 1861 census has Edmund in lodgings and Mary Ann aged 37 a pauper in Priory Road Workhouse Wells where she died in 1866. Please has anyone any info. about her parents and maybe siblings. Thanks.

I believe that I have the correct person but I somehow have her as Mary Ann. The marriage is the correct family on the grooms side but she is just Ann. The death that I have is for Mary A. Bowell ? Please does anyone know if she was Mary Ann and that  I have the correct death . Thanks.

Edmund junior's christening on 7 May 1847 at St. Cuthbert, Wells gives his parents as Edmund & Ann

There is a death registered in Wells for an Ann Bowell September qtr 1849
Bowell  Ann
Wells 10   339

and a marriage for Edward
December qtr 1850
Bowell    Edward
Reading    Mary Ann
Wells    10   807

It is not uncommon for first name Edmund to be also known as Edward/Edwin  ;)

Hi. Rosie   Yes the deaths that I have are the 1866 Wells 5c 438 and Wells 5c 444. I definitely have begun with the correct family with father Joseph Bowell and son Sidmond  but I no longer have access to the census records and I have somehow got Edmund, Mary dressmaker and children living with Joseph 1851 then  1861 Joseph is in an almshouse and I have Edmund in lodgings and Mary Ann aged 37 pauper in the workhouse. Did I imagine the Mary bit I'm beginning to wonder but I can't see how? I don't know where Sidmund and Edmund went before Sidmund married Elizabeth Anning in 1869. Hoping for some clues. Thanks again.  Ann.

Hi Ann

Edmunds wife does appear as Mary Ann on the 1851, hence my earlier post
