Red Post,  well spotted Debra  :D

:)  Hi everyone,  Tony is NOT in NSW, not even in Australia.   I think we need to find an RChatter who is going to the NSW SRO's archives at Kingswood and has spare moments to look up and photograph a probate file for:

C W W TAITT, of Penrith, DD 28 Nov 1922,  Probate Granted 30 Jan 1923.

http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/searchform.aspx?id=15

Fingers crossed it contains some BDM certs or at least clues for when he married and the names of the children of the marriage, and the details of the Executor of the Deceased Estate.

Sorry,  I am not able to get to the NSW SRO myself.

Cheers,  JM

Perhaps some property involved and need to make a will.

Neil,  I wonder if Jane wanted to be able to prove her surname for enrolling to vote.  It was not compulsory to enrol, nor was there a great deal of regulation around re proving your ID, but perhaps Jane thought she needed a piece of paper to prove she was now Jane TAITT.   :)

NSW ER 1903 PARRAMATTA, polling at Penrith
Charles William Wright TAITT, Lemon-grove, independent means
Jane TAITT, King’s Bush, dd.

When the 1903 roll was being put together, this was the first time for NSW that females were eligible to enrol.  So, it can often be that there’s apparent differences in the addresses for family members.  The rolls don’t indicate family relationships, BUT where there are differences in the addresses for two people likely to be husband and wife, it is usually safe to presume that the male’s address is likely to be where he was residing on the PREVIOUS voting occasion (perhaps one of the referendum held re Federating the colonies into one Commonwealth) while the his newer address would be the one for the female. ( ADDING : long hand rolls prepared, that manuscript sent to Sydney Govt Printer for printing up of rolls ..... time consuming, so many of the 1903 rolls simply do not adjust the male addresses IF they were still to vote at same polling place).

On the other hand, it could well be that Lemon Grove and King’s Bush were one and the same place.  I think someone with local knowledge for Penrith could help there.   PERHAPS it is a question to ask at the NSW SRO ?

Cheers,  JM

For a man with singularly hardened character and a few stretches behind bars he seems to have made good in the end. "Independent Means" ::)

The Cumberland Times mentions the death of Jane Taitt (81) in December 1916 and mentions that Jane was a native of Parramatta ( Miss Jane Rogers) and she may have been related to a George Rogers whom had a Drapery Store in George St and later Church St Parramatta 50 years ago.
