Benjamin Smith, c. 1860s, Wakefield/Rothwell
« on: Friday 10 June 05 13:22 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the death of Benjamin Smith, who was a coal miner

he was living in Rothwell, but on the 1861 census I have found him in Stanley, nr Wakefield with his family.

he was born c. 1807.

I have found his wife, Ann, shown as a widow in Leeds on the 1871 census, so Benjamin Smith died during the period 1861-1871.

I have checked the GRO indexes - there seems to be only 1 entry in Wakefield district, but this doesn't seem to match, as the occupation of not coal miner.

there are several in Leeds district, but as there are no ages in the index for this period, it is hard to tell. I checked a few of them through Leeds R.O. but none of these were coal miners.

I would be grateful to hear from anyone who might have any relevant information on this, especially a burial entry, etc for Benjamin.

many thanks,

Jeremy

Ticker,

Yes, I am still looking for this death/burial.

It should be in the period 1861-1871, as he is on the 1861 census and his wife is a widow in 1871.
