The biggest problem here is that there is no birth for her to the same set of parents as her brothers so we can't say she existed.

Lawrence H Spendlove married in 1929 to Edna L Jones.

Laurence H Spendlove  previously married Georgina Hannah Youngman in 1908.  Georgina died in 1926 aged 39

As Nora's father was a policeman, I am wondering if he was sent to another county. I know he was back in Monmouthshire in 1930, but that doesn't mean they were there the whole time.

Lawrence Spendlove was a policeman.  Do you think your relative may have got things muddled and Nora was the daughter of Lawrence?

I wonder whether Edna L Jones was also previously married prior to 1929 - Norah may have been her daughter

There is no Norah birth with mmn Youngman or Jones.  However - if Edna was previously married and then she and Lawrence had "Nora" any birth would show Edna's birth surname as mmn on the birth reg

It sounds possible.
I looked up the brothers. Haydn died the same year - 1921. I haven't found a death for Gordon or John yet. I know about Frederick as he was my father.

If you are tempted - you could buy a copy of the 1929 marriage cert.  It would give Edna's fathers name and therefore her birth surname if she was previously married

Yes, that's a good point.
At the moment I want to pursue John and Gordon. These are uncles that I never knew I had. Maybe I have living cousins out there.

I have found some police reports that mention a Superintendant Spendlove. I am told that the police archives I need are in Gwent, could anybody tell me how I go about checking these.
