Hi all,

The names on the trees don't match to any records very well. For example, the death of Amy Ashton. Would she not be Smith? Or did she never marry Mr Smith, or remarry?

It is best to start with what you know and can verify in records ak1326.
That is probably your mother's marriage certificate and then her birth certificate. It is more difficult with the name Smith, but hopefully we could help then to unravel this.

Heywood  :)

Hi
Been diggin' a bit.....
Firstly, let's stick to what we know. Can you list the siblings in chronological order, who was oldest etc. That might help us with the date of the Ashton/Smith marriage......however.....
Sorry to ask, but could she have been illegitimate? There is a Amy Smith in the correct part of Chezzer who married Harold Ashton in 1902, thereby becoming Amy Ashton. Harold was killed towards the end of WW1. if she had more children after this date she could have gven them her maiden name as they weren't 'Ashtons'
But.......on the Ancestry tree, Nancy is recorded as marrying a Swindon - is this correct? If so, her birth looks like it was in Chesterfield in 1921 but her mother's MN is recorded as Gill. Ring any bells?
