Hornchurch 1841 & Town show
« on: Saturday 10 July 04 01:34 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
The first 1000+ names of Hornchuch 1841 census are now available for online search. This is in preparation for a visit to the Havering Town show on August 29 and 30, 2004.
A group of youngsters are visitng Kenya in a years time, and funds for their project, in building and refurbishing two childrens street centres is the reason for doing this. Many of these children do not have parents or a family history, through the contraction of AIDS.
A dedicated stand at the show, will be purely for the advancement of local family history, and donations towards this group of youngsters. If you are in the area, please come along - there will be a dedicated band of history researchers to answer any questions, and help you in builing your family tree at no cost. A donation would always be welcome, though. UK taxpayers can gift aid at an extra 28 pence per pound.
            Thanks,
Kevan
ps
Romford, Upminster and much more may be added in the very forseeable future, for 1841.

Re: Hornchurch 1841 & Town show & a laptop to be won
« Reply #1 on: Tuesday 13 July 04 00:20 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
Just an update on this. The second part of Hornchurch 1841 census has been added, now 1744 names.
More importantly, the Havering Town show on the 29th and 30th August has got itself a sponsor. A high tech firm that sells laptops 25% - 30% cheaper than all the leading brands is trying to break into the home market, and thus they are supplying laptops for our usage during the fair, and also there will be a brand new laptop being raffled.

I intend to have the best stand at the Havering Town show, so get along if you can and support the great youth team who are going to Kenya next year to help build centres for orphaned and unwanted children. You have all seen sport relief, this is light relief (!),and you can do some family history stuff while you are there too.

Hello Jaq,
You are missing a great event. Well, I hope so, anyway. Hornchurch 1841 census is all avalable from http://kevw.net.
Note: For one pound you could be the proud owner of a brand new laptop. Back to genealogy, I made some interesting observations this evening from being able to access the Essex 1871 census - it is not bad (from S&N or Stepping Stones).
I am posting into the beginners section in a  moment as to good searching procedure, which I found really useful tonight.

Hi Jaq et al.
Tomorrow is going to be good, even with the minor problems getting everything set up correctly. I had to order a lorry to move all the equipment in the end; It is surprising how quickly a mini fills up!
Thanks to Jaq for the support, and the same to all the rootschat team. This site will get lots of mentions along the way, as a reall great site to chat about family history, guaranteed.
Shame about the weather, anyone got any control? Perhps I will have a word with God controller, I am sure it will be fine.
Did anyone watch the olympics tonight? Cool dudes in the 100m relay and Kelly in the 1500m, they should be very proud.
Last comment, my daughters school just pipped the first place for comprehensives in the A-level statistics, and about 4th in the GCSE statistics; she is top of her year in many subjects - proud dad.
More to follow, as regards History, in a few days time. Apologies to all for being  bit quiet on the list at the moment.

Hi all,
Incidentally, if of interest, the prizes in the raffle I am running for our Kenya2005 charity include the original 1841 and 1861 census for Essex as a poor second prize, first prize is an £850 laptop with XP professioanl; and lastly, a Marks & Spencers food hamper.
I spent the wekend at the Havering Town show, and sold a miserable 250 tickets at a £1 each, so the odds are quite good for winning with prizes worth in the region of a £1000.
Details are at http://essex1841.com/Kenya2005.htm- definitely worth a flutter, I reckon??

Hi Diane,
Thanks. It was a good show, though. We are just as interested in getting our profile known in the local area, and this always helps in future fund raising events. We have to find about £20,000 to cover project costs, and some of it wil come from businesses that perceive a good cause - but it is really hard work, some times.
What we do have in Hornchurch is one of the best Labour MPs in the country, a real constituency MP, which makes a change, and we are hoping he will become the patron for our charity soon. If you are listeming, John Cryer ????
This is rootschat 'google advertising' talking, this will be all over the web by the morning.
