"HOW SCOTSMEN PLAYED IN ENGLISH TIES
Everton Out
Sheffield United had Everton at Bramall Lane before 50,000 people. Everton brought a large crowd, who early were cheering good work by M'Bain and Chedgzoy.
A long kick by a Sheffield defender relieved, sent Partridge going, and Tunstall, running in to meet a centre, fired in a terrific shot which gave Sheffield an early goal.
M'Donald and Raitt put up a good show, while M'Bain played with all his usual skill.
In the second half Chadwick was early prominent with some good shots, but his luck was not in.
Jock M'Donald continued to play well for Everton and Bain had now found his feet.
Play was equal and keen. Even Neil M'Bain was in great form, playing a fine artistic game.
Everton set up a prolonged attack, all the forwards having shots, and the Sheffield goal had hair's breadth escapes.
The Sheffield backs made no mistakes.
Both Chadwick and M'Bain failed at free kicks, and Everton were beaten by the only goal of the game.
Result: Sheffield United 1; Everton 0."
