Some more information come to light is that my grandmother was one of around 8 children.
Her brother/sister married her husband's brother/sister. So her brother/sister married a carroll too

There is also an Edna A Holloway marrying a Bernard carroll, also in Coventry, in Ap/may/jun 1936

Not sure about that.
Birth index only indicates sisters Norah and Kathleen, and possibly Elizabeth, for David.

I cant see any of them marrying a Holloway

My grandfather David had older sisters called Betty (elizabeth?) and Hilary for sure
Kathleen is a familiar name too


Edna is a familiar name as well so marriage between her and a carroll possibly a good one!

According to entry in Probate index for Archie, Admon was granted to widow Winifred Agnes.
Middle name might help.
Maybe Adams was a surname from a first marriage and she already had chidren when marrying Archie - tht might account for tbe 8 siblings, if some were half siblings.

To be sure we are on the right track, you really need Joan's marriage cert to David Carroll, to confirm if her Dad was Archie.

But there is a birth of a Winifred Agnes Adams in 1898 in Wellingtn, Shropshire.
A possibility.
But again you need Archie and Winifreds marriage cert to confirm her age and father's name.


Both Archie and Winifred died in tne 1960's it seems, and you said in ealier post that you thought one died in the 1920's, so we may still be following the wrong line.

thanks for all this - my mum did say that her mum's dad or mum (can't remember which) died when she was young.

Am trying to piece all this together, but will start with trying to get the marriage cert of my grandparents.
