That would be Joan or David wouldnt it?  Arent they your grandparents and thus your mum's mum and dad?

Yes - Joan, married to David would have been between 4-10 when either of them died.
They are my mum's parents (sadly she doesn't have much information on the family).

The Winifred Agnes Adams I found (bn Wellington) is a dtr of an Edward and Lucy Adams , and by 1901 is living in Coventry . So looking quite possible.
But I am getting head of myself!

It's a lot, lot further than I'd have got on my own! I'll see if I can find out any info to back it up!

my mum didn't know their names but possibility that Joan's grandmother's name was Elizabeth - she brought her up as her mum died when she was four.

They think possibly father's name could have been Joseph (but grandad's side has lots of john josephs etc so could be confusion mixing two sides up!)

Is there anything that might match some of those details?

I have done some more digging and after interrogating my mum found lots more information that I think has led me to Joan's parents! The siblings' names were the major clue!

My grandmother was the youngest of four children.
NAME:    Harry George Frederick Holloway
BIRTH:    Jul 1912  - East Stonehouse, Devon

NAME:    Edna Alice Holloway
BIRTH:    Oct 1914  - East Stonehouse, Devon

NAME:    Doris Violet Holloway
BIRTH:    Dec 1917  - East Stonehouse, Devonshire

Joan Nancy Holloway - 13th August 1923 in Coventry

With this I think their parents are:
Alice E Adams
Henry J Holloway   - mum says he was a sailor.
That would explain them living near Plymouth. I have no idea what took them to Coventry, and I do not think they were al from Plymouth either. Possibly the war took them to Coventry - there is a gap between Doris and Joan, so war and possible miscarriages/stillbirths would account for that.


Marriage record. There is a Robert Redmon attached to this record - a mistake?

Now I'm trying to find their births and to trace their parents. I am struggling with this - I can't seem to find either Alice or Henry.

My family think that Alice's mother was called Elizabeth. She brought up my grandmother following Alice's death. However, Elizabeth could also be Henry's mother! She would have died AFTER 1928 that is for sure. I don't know if she survived Henry or not.

Welldone, you seem to have worked it all out!
Sorry, I was obviouly leading you up the garden path with Archie and Winifred.

Just goes to show, though, that drawing conclusions purely from the indexes, can be very risky.

I think you will need Henry and Alice's marriage cert , in order to find their fathers names and occupations, to progress ths further.
There are too many births of Henry Holloways and Alice Adams to choose from, and as they married after availabe censuses, we cant get a birthplace from there. So fathers details will help locate their families on censuses when they were children and hopefully lead to their birth, thn parents marriage and so on.
