Hi George Abson was b in Wakefield in 1808 died  Wakefield 1895.
The 1841 census shows his wife to be Called Sarah B 1811 East Ardsley- she died in Wakefield in 1902.
There first child  William Abson b 1834 In Stanley nr Wakefield, the second child Ann b 1839 Outwood. The 1841 shows George Abson to be a shoe maker.
I would very much like to locate the marriage, and Georges  origins.
As yet I have not been able to find ant detail on the familyseach .org site.
Any guidance would be very much appreciated.
Kindest regards Brian. ;)

There's a possible marriage for a George Abson to Sally Austen Abson in Wakefield 08/11/1830.

You mention a Joseph - who is this? Do you mean George's occupation was shoemaker?

Best wishes

Maria  :)

Hi Maria
I have amended the post, it was the George mentioned who was the shoe maker.
I know that Sally was a common nickname for Sarah hut how would the work out with the marriage you mention ?.
Do you think the abson surname for Georges wife is probably an error, or could they be related in some way.
Kindest regards Brian.

Hi Maria
I appreciate your kind help.
Why would Sally be Sarah  on the subsequent census dates ?.
I always assumed that Sally was a nickname used for Sarah.
Do you think Sally's quoted Surname is correct, and how might I progress things regarding George Absons origins.
I must say there are quite a lot around the Wakefield area.
Although George is down as Born in Wakefield- I wonder if this is his baptism ?.
Georg Abson
Birth Date: 22 Feb 1808
Event Date:
3 Apr 1808
Event Type:
Baptism
Parish:
Rothwell, Holy Trinity
Father's Name:
Anthony Abson
Mother's Name:
Maria Abson
This could account for Anna's Second name - Maria.
Kindest regards Brian.

I would imagine Sarah & Sally were fairly interchangeable - which one was used on the census would probably depend on who was giving the information to the enumerator. It varies on the baptismal records from Sarah to Sally.

best wishes

Do you have the details for the other children? Looks like Charles was born in Liverpool. His baptism record is on the Lancs OPC site: -

13/09/1847 at St Peter's Liverpool, Charles son of George & Sarah, shoemaker  :)

Hi Maria
I have the children as
William b 1834  -Stanley
Anna Maria b 1839  -Outwood
Joseph b  1841 - Wakefield
Israel  b 1844 - Stanley
Charles b 1847 Liverpool
Alexander b 1849 Stanley
Emma b 1851 Stanley
Daniel b 1854 Stanley.
Do you think that the George men tined in the Rothwell baptism look to be right ?.
I am working on a family tree for a friend, I personally have no Relatives in Leeds or Wakefield.
My family originated from Calderdale.
Kindest regards Brian. ;)

Hi Brian

Rothwell and Wakefield are only 3 miles apart so it's a possibility I suppose. Interesting that none of the sons are named after their grandfather though, I'd expect to see an Anthony  :) Pity the baptismal record doesn't give an occupation, shoemaker or cordwainer might make it more likely.

best wishes

Maria  :)
