Hi all

Thanks KGarrad for your explanation.  Blimey it ain't arf confusing!  :-\

Swebby - thanks for looking at the Brightling Thomas', yes the 1776 Thomas is mine (confirmed!) His father was Gabriel (confirmed) his father was Thomas and who I am hoping to now confirm.

All the online trees (thanks to some 'nana) have placed his father as a Thomas Skinner from Cranbrook.  I'm 95% certain it's not the Cranbrook Thomas but is the Thomas Skinner born in Brightling in 1722 son of yet another Thomas Skinner b. 1691 Brightling. I would like to try and confirm this with some other documentation - but not sure what?

I've also found a load of great Skinner information today on A2A but I need to confirm dates etc.  And I've found some information on the online tithe maps! Except the maps don't seem to be working for me.  I'm desperate to see the placement of these plots of land.

Thanks again for the Cranbrook information.  I'm going to think of it as beng in Kent for my purposes.  :D
