Who were Edward Mammatt's parents??

Hello,
I'm trying to repair a seriously damaged family tree that I thought was OK.

I need to know (from sound evidence) who the parents of my 2g grandfather, Edward Mammatt, were. I know that Edward married Amelia Tomlinson  31 March 1823, Aston Juxta Birmingham and I know the history from there on, except Edward's death date  I do know that this was pre 1834, as Amelia had remarried by that date.
There are, I think, several Edward Mammatts who might fit, but WHO is THE one?? How sound is the record?

I wonder if anyone can help me with this, please?

I don't think you're going to find "sound evidence" from this period.
You've probably seen this christening:
9/4/1798/ St. Phillip's/parents Moses & Elizabeth.Elizabeth died 1799.
Edward lived in Yardley as you know & there's a William Mammett b.1803 also there having children at the same time so possibly related.
There's this one which seems more likely:
Edward Mammett ch. May 1796 Coleshill Warks.Parents/William & Sarah.
There's also a brother William ch.1803.
Ideally you would need to see the marriage entry for Edward & see if there are any Mammett witnesses.

Thank you for those pieces of information, jim1- I believe I already have a record of them. The trouble is, though, they (and a few other bits) only allow me to make another (intelligent?) guess, and I don't want to do that. Your last sentence says the sort of thing I'm after, but where do I get hold of such details. Parish Records and Record Offices  seem to be a great source, but this requires actual visits and I'm not able to do this. But, maybe you can suggest , anyway, which Record Office you think might be most relevant to my search - I don't have any local knowledge to allow me to work that out.

I should mention that some other family members have found some great, original records, none of which, unfortunately, just point to the right spot. I wonder if different a Record Office, so far unvisited,  might perhaps hold an answer ?

The records are held at the B'ham Central Library.I've had a look around to see if there are any fiches available but unfortunately those that are for St.Peter's & St.Paul's Aston don't cover that period.
B'ham Library is closed at present as they are moving to a new one & that won't be open until September.
So you have 2 choices,first wait until September & ask if someone can go there & look for you or go to your nearest IGI family History Centre & order them from there.
I can positively place William as son of William & Sarah as he was a witness at his sisters marriage with another sister Mary & also he had a brother Thomas as a witness to his marriage.
At the moment Edward b.1796 looks the most likely candidate for your Edward.

jim1 - thanks for all your trouble - that's most useful information. When the library reopens in Sept. I'll give it a try. Meanwhile, I know where there's a Latter Day Saints FH Centre not too far away - I'll find time to pay them a visit and see what they can tell me
One of my cousins thinks Edward, son of William and Sarah is the correct one - maybe she's right - we'll see!
