18th Cent. Kent parish name
« on: Wednesday 05 June 13 12:14 BST (UK) »
Trying to discipher an Ancesters Will. I am having trouble with a parish name, it looks like
'Loearn'
So far the areas covered in the will are;
Beltinge, Herne Bay;
Hoath, Reculver,
So I assume this parish would be in the same general area, as he was from Chislet, Kent.

Very hopeful of all the local knowledge out there.
Richardson; Headley; Kingsland; Moore;
Brett; Whitmore; Miller; Gosling;
Smith; Holland
Carter; Rushton; Salt
Haberfield; Maggs; Marsh; Veale;
Chapple; Bond; Baker; Osborne.

Hearn. Perhaps an old spelling of Herne?

Yes, I would probably guess that too.  There is a chart here http://www.examiner.com/article/how-to-decipher-old-handwriting-part-1

Thanks for that. Had started to wonder if the first letter was 'w' or 'h'
After your thoughts, remembered I had old 18cent map and Hearn was spelt that way then.
So big thank you for pointing me in the right direction.  :D
