Adam Reid & Helen Houston, Kinross-shire Scotland

Having reached the point of research where records are rendered difficult to come by regarding two
siblings of Adam Reid & Helen Houston ( Adam Reid, born Portmoak Kinross Scotland, 1825, married Helen Houston,from Fife family whose occupation was "travelling blacksmiths"(journey men if you like).
Can anyone help with the following questions.

(1) Is there any direct descendants from their two sons, Adam Reid and John Reid?

Here is synopsis of information I have on the two sons;

     Adam Reid, born 1866, Fossoway & Tulliebole Parish
     Kinross-shire Scotland.

     Went to Patagonia, South America, where he went into partnership,
     with two others, of a sheep farm. He died in Patagonia. Killed when the
     horse he was riding stumbled and fell on him.

    John Reid born 1868, Fossoway & Tulliebole Parish Kinross-shire
       Scotland.
     Went to America(USA). His occupation was "Master Joiner". Last letter
     Sent home by him( to my grandfather) was dated 1906 from San Francisco
     USA. As this was last contact home, it was family assumption he died in
     San Francisco earthquake of that year.

I realise that this appeal for information regarding any direct family, from these two
named, is more than a long shot but I have had triumphs on long shots before, so
here is hoping.

Thanks for this info. I shall certainly follow these lines of inquiry. On reviewing I notice I accidentally put John Reid's Parish of birth as Fossoway & Tulliebole in Posting when it meant to be Orwell Parish. Not that this make difference to basis of answers sought.

  Could James have been Jane's uncle?  It doesn't appear that he was her father.

I still have not found John Reid immigrating.  I will continue the search later today (unless someone else can find something in the meantime.)

Margaret Reid, 1893-1941.  Margaret apparently was married to Alexander Fowler and she passed away in Scotland.

Hi Lisa,

I can confirm that the John Reid is the one referred to in 1891 and the 1901 census.

I have recorded marriage cert between John Reid, Joiner Journeyman and Jeanie Kinnimonth Gibson
taking place in Auchtertool, Fife, 31st December 1890. John was 22 years and Jeanie 18 years.

Jeanie's mother was recorded as deceased at time of marriage.

Perhaps with the help of other Rootschat readers/contributors other answers will be searched
out.
