I do not know whether the cemetery attached to St Andrew's Church would have been closed by the 1930s.  Cobham has a separate cemetery and I am afraid that I can't say when it opened.

Records of burials at the church will be available from the church or from Surrey Record Office, at Woking. The SRO has copies on microfiche.
However details of the burials at the municipal cemetery may be available from Elmbridge Borough Council, at Esher, if you sent them the details.

Hope this will point you in the right direction.

It could well be that it was a cremation, so no grave/headstone.

If you do not find a burial, the nearest crematorium to Cobham is Leatherhead. Further away are Woking, Guildford and Kingston upon Thames.

It seems that Leatherhead Crematorium didn't open until 1961 so that at least can be discounted.

Kingston didn't open until after 1951 so another discounted. Woking however opened in 1885 so it would be worth looking there.

Hi

An index to Epsom cemetery records is online - see the link in the Rootschat guide to burials on the Surrey board. There doesn't seem any Gudges in the online index.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,404819.0.html

Surrey History Centre hold the burial registers to St Andrew Cobham up to 1927 (filmed images now online on Ancestry). It looks like this maybe the date the churchyard closed.
The link to the Surrey History Centre's parish register holdings is in the burial guide which also gives details of any cemetery records which Surrey History Centre may hold which are few as cemetery records are usually held by the local authority which manages the cemetery, Elmbridge in the case of Cobham cemetery).

http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/recreation-heritage-and-culture/archives-and-history/archives-and-history-research-guides/parish-registers/guide-to-parish-registers-held-at-surrey-history-centre

Cremations grew in popularity after the Second World War and were more rare before then with very few crematoriums in existence before that date. Apart from Woking which was the first crematorium in the country, other earlier crematoriums were usually in large cities. When you request a search of cemetery records you need to request that both the burial and cremation records are searched as the registers are kept separately. However the only crematorium in Surrey in 1931 would be at Woking which was and still is owned by a private company. You would have to contact them directly. Information about Woking crematorium is in the guide.

A request to Elmbridge Borough Council cemetery office seems the most likely starting point. The link is given in the guide.

Regards

Valda
