Could it be "Sincol Steam Ships Line"

of "74 Broadway, New York"

Cheers,  JM

Thanks, it's something close to that but  'Sincol' doesn't come up in a search.  It makes sense, though, his son was a "naval architect, yacht designer."  I took a look at their neighborhood on Google Earth; definitely a few steps up from the usual ancestor.

edited to add:

I have found a later newspaper article which says he was the owner of the 'Linton Steamship Line' of New York which ran boats down to Jacksonville, Nassau and Miami.  So that answers the question.

He was probably too late for service in WWI as he was completing his forms in 1918. What I like is when a man filled out both WWI and WWII forms and has the same birthdate/place on both.

A listing for the Linton Steamship Line Inc., 74 Broadway, New York City, is in American Exporter's "Export Trade Directory" 1919-1920, page 443.
