Finally found a reference for the Cause of Death - it was Gullion or in contemporary terms 'Colic'

Poor girl - that must have been a painful death.  I've never heard of Gullion before.

I wonder if she had Crohn's Disease - it wouldn't have a name back then.  Or perhaps appendicitis?

I don't know if those were identified illness/diseases in 1723 but I imagine the pain of not being able to help you child!  Just horrible

Could it have been something to do with the plaque - that was raging in Europe in the 1720's apparently??

The symptoms of plague were many and varied with pain all over the body certainly being one of them.  It would be easy to identify though, with huge swellings in the groin and armpit and later the development of a rash.  Difficult to see how it could be described as 'Gullion', which nowadays is described as Colic, although amongst a whole range of terrible symptoms no doubt severe abdominal pain was one of them.
