GEORGE HONNOR (HANNER?) BORN 1800 MIDDLESEX
« on: Tuesday 11 June 13 13:41 BST (UK) »
Hi I have his details from 1841 onwards etc etc.  I'm pretty sure he has Jewish roots.  I cannot find a birth registration and therefore cannot find out who his parents were - can anyone help ... ? ???

Civil registration only began in 1837, so you wont find a birth registration
All you can hope for is a christening, if he was christeed,
But to know which parish to look in, you need something more specific than 'London' !

Does he give any more in later censuses?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

I can't find anyone on the census who ties in with a ca.birthdate of 1800???

Can you tell us where you have found him (and under what surname as I suspect this could easily be mistranscribed) and when/where he died?

He's in the 1841 as George "Hanner" which I think is a mistranscribe... hes married to Mary Ann with5 children.  He dies 1866.  He's a gardener in Whitehall place, West Ham.  I think he's born in East Ham - but I'm not sure where in East Ham

The census evidence certainly points to his being born in Essex rather than Middlesex.

In 1841 he's George Honnor, labourer, 40 b Essex. Plus Mary 30, Charles 9 Margaret 5 Thomas 3 Isabella 5mo. (White Hall Place, West Ham). HO107/323 bk9 f74 p23.

In 1851 he's George Hanner, gardener, 51 b East Ham Essex. (Still at White Hall Place, West Ham) HO107/1768/455/9. Wife is Mary.

Son Daniel seems to use "Honnor" in most records, and upon his marriage in 1867 names his father as George Thomas Honnor, gardener.

Daughter Isabella is registered at birth as Isabella HONOR, Mar qtr 1841 West Ham.

There is a marriage of a George HONNOR and Mary SEALEY, 15 Feb 1829 St Mary Whitechapel.

Witnesses were Benjamin & Rebecca MASON.

Why is is thought George's roots were Jewish?

Because I am researching my grandmothers family who tells me that she is jewish.  All other sides of the family are definately NOT jewish so I'm assuming from all the Honnor records I am viewing (but havent managed to tie up yet) that they were the Jewish family ...   Also I cannot find George 1800 birth reg/christening anywhere ... :-\

As lizdb has explained, there won't be a birth registration as he was born before the start of the civil registration system in 1837.

Here is some information about East Ham parish records (going by George's birthplace as stated in 1851): https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/East_Ham,_Essex.
