Joseph Vickers , Butcher of Braithwaite made Bankrupt 1864.
« on: Tuesday 11 June 13 16:32 BST (UK) »
While searching for my 3x gr grandfather Joseph Vickers I came upon this article from the London Gazette dated 16 Mar 1866  stating that "Joseph Vickers of Braithwaite , in the parish of Crosthwaite, in the County of Cumberland, Butcher, adjudicated bankrupt on the 12th day of September 1864"

It is not my Joseph who states on the 1851 census that he was "late butcher".He had previously been overseer at Powter Howe, Crosthwaite. I know the bankrupt was not him as he died in 1859.

Does anyone have information on this Joseph?

Thanks Geoff for being so quick.

This person I now find is my 2x gr uncle  - the son of William Vickers , the Tollgate Keeper at Whinlatter and THE GRANDSON of my 3x gr grandfather Joseph. That is fantastic.
With so many Josephs and Williams in the area without an age I had no idea the bankrupt butcher may be one of my ancestors .
