hi, I have the divorce papers of rose Talbot ( my nan) and Sammy mac ( grandad) allowing Sammy mac to see my mum for 4 hours on a Sunday this was 1947 i understand that his father was called Tommy and either Sammy or Tommy worked on the dredgers and it capsized and he drowned and another story is that Tommy came out of a pub drunk and got runover by a tram. I don't know if any of these are true or just wishful thinking. Is the name 'Simmy ' a nickname for stanley?

I am going to delete my last message and send it to your Inbox - because for some reason (it could be an oversight) your grandad is set to private on our relatives ancestry tree.  I'd hate to be putting info out that I should not be :) so check your inbox for details Steve193 xx

Hello seen your mention of The Bear of Woolton. The Bear was did not have mental health problems-far from it. he was a bare fisted boxer on the travelling boxing booths. His name The Bear came from his broad shoulders and red curly hair. He lived in Thomas Street Garston-just off King Street. He was originally from Woolton hence The Bear of Woolton. His last boxing match was when he was well ino his 50s was at the Garston fair- the field that was behind what is now Speke Road Post Office. The Bear Collins has many relatives still around Garston and the south end of the city.

really good site for a bit of Garston  under the bridge history. Lets start the ball rolling. Emma Salisbury fish seller. Frank Durkin Coalman. Gandolfos news agents. I am from under the bridge originally and I was proud to know the people who I was brought up with- I was born 1947

I think these are the details you have pondered over
1901 Rodick st, Much Woolton
Thomas Hart 40yrs born in Ireland
Maria 32 born Woolton
Mary 8yrs born St Helens
Annie 4yrs born Garston

This you might find worth having a look at. Many people in Garston moved from woolton where there was a large population of Irish people

The girls have a slight name change 10 years later to Maria and Anna, Thomas still states he came from a place in Ireland  and Maria is in the factory that her sister Annie goes into :) I think your dad could be right about Annie's birth date...see what you think. sorry due to copy rights I'm unable to give you the details.pm me if you cant find them.
Forgot to say you need to make at least three postings to send PMs

hello Garstonite. Yes under the bridge was a bit isolated from the rest of Garston/Liverpool. Two ways in and out Blackburn Street and Church Road. Hundreds of terraced houses huddled together surrounded by factories. However no one need to go out of the confined area-everything was on hand. Industry, schooling, retail, recreation and worship. Most of this is gone- nearly all. However there are new houses being built and the area is getting on its feet. best wishes to you.

I used to live in Grassendale,  but I remember walking round this area in the 1980s.
To anyone who doesn't know the area, the bridge carries the branch of the West Coast Main line to Liverpool Lime Street.
