Can anyone help me find Carl Albert SANDER and maybe his wife Eliza Louisa MARKS who departed from Germany before 1906 which is when his son was born in Australia. He was Herman L SANDER registered in 1906 at St Leonards N S W. Reg 18099.
Hopefully tattyhead :)

Thankyou Wivenhoe & Giblet for this info as I have not a lot of information on this family and any other info would be appreciated. I do know that as a German they may have been interned so any details on this would be great.

 :)

at the naa website given earlier :

I think these naturalisation papers would be very informative:

Karl Albert Otto SANDER, naturalisation 17 October 1940, born Salchendorf, Germany in 1872.  Residing in 1940 at Collaroy NSW;  wife: Elisa Luisa MARKS

BARCODE:  31523269

Karl on the NAA website  ;D

Remember that it was not until 1949 that Australian citizenship commenced.  Until then, anyone born in Australia was automatically a British Subject.  Also that Eliza/Elisa Louisa/Louise/Luisa MARKS was noted as Australian born...  :)

Cheers,  JM

The couple were on the electoral roll  :) for Collaroy NSW address in 1943, he a waterside worker.  You needed to be a British Subject, aged at least 21 years, to be on the electoral roll (and of course a resident !)
