He was interned  :-[

He arrived in Australia on the Prince Regent, embarked at Luitpeld  He arrived 8 hour day 1898 (October???, not sure about that month)  he had served in the 1st Regiment of Prussian Guards in 1893.   Yes, Merlin has correct parents  :)  Karl Wilhelm SANDER and Henriette PETRE....

The above comes from his digitised papers at the NAA  :)

I HAVE MODIFIED TO CORRECT MY ERROR RE SHIP'S NAME and to add further info

The ship was the PRINZ REGENT LUITPOLD .... arriving Sydney 14 Oct 1898,
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/88152407
departed London at 6:40 am on 30 August 1898
actually departed Bremen 24 August 1898

Apologies for my mis-reading,  there's some of the crew/passenger list for that voyage at the following link:

Cheers,  JM

He was released 6 Nov 1942  :)   Two DIGITISED files at NAA, both in name of Karl Albert Wilhelm SANDER, with next of kin as Elisa Louisa SANDER.

eight hour day in 1898 was Monday 3 October .....   :) as per SMH available at trove  ;D so Karl Albert SANDER arrived 3 October 1898 ....  so we need to figure out where the ship was as at 3 Oct  :) to know where he landed  ;D

TROVE to the rescue  ;D

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14146823 SMH 5 Oct .... this cutting gives arrival 3 Oct as being FREMANTLE, so the info on the NAA digitised files gives the first port of call on the Australian mainland, rather than the port at which he landed  ;D

Now you really have my interest with his internment in WW2?

What about WW1 when most of the internments happened, was he not interned then? 40 years is a long time in Australia, or am I reading this wrong?

Neil ;)
