Wive's Of Henry Owens, Tasmania & Victoria
« on: Monday 17 June 13 04:05 BST (UK) »
Ann Morby born Abt 1806 Bambury, Oxfordshire England
Arrived Tasmania 25th April 1836 per Arab (3)
Married Henry Owens 19th February 1844, Tasmania, Australia
Death Unknown
Convict records state that she was previously married in England. Husband Edward and had a child. I cannot find a death in Tasmania for Ann

Mary Kelly born Abt 1810 Galway, Ireland
Arrived Tasmania 18th May 1848
Married Henry Owens 21st February 1852, Hobart Tasmania
Death Unknown

Part of an Article Argus 1861
Henry Owens and Jane Owens were charged with being tho keepers of a common brothel, and Anne Connelly and Mary Anne Brooks, two quite young girls, were charged with vagrancy.  Constable Summerhayes arrested the prisoners in a house situated in Little la Trobe street, near Elizabeth-street. The place bore an infamous character.

Who is Jane Owens?

Argus 1869
Henry Owens, a blind old man, and Sarah Hilliard, charged with insulting behaviour, were cautioned and discharged

This is wife 3 or 4. No marriage Cert can be found. A child Edmund Henry Owens was born to this relationship to Sarah Jane Owens

I have a lot of information on Sarah Jane Hilliard and children. I cannot find any death or births for Ann Morby or Mary Kelly
Henry Owens came to Melbourne 10th April 1853 per Yarra Yarra from Launceston

I am looking for the Deaths of Ann Morby & Mary Kelly. I am not aware of any children from this marriage. Any births would be helpful.
Thanks

I must of missed John Owens on the Yarra Yarra
I am not aware of John Owens. The death of Ann Owens is very interesting.
Nothing would surprise me with Henry Owens. Will have to look into this
Thanks again

As he married Mary Kelly in 1852 and went to Melbourne in 1853 and the child is noted as BOY i would assume he is a child from the first marriage to Ann.

John Owen being on the Yarra Yarra, has thrown a spanner in the works
The only child that I am aware of is Edmund Henry Owens born Melb 1867. I just hope that I havent traced the wrong Henry Owens?

Argus, 27th August 1879
Dr. Youl held an inquest upon the body of Henry Owens, aged 70 years, a blind beggar, who lived in a house of Little Bourke Street. Yesterday morning he was found dead in his bed. Dr Neild made a post mortem examination of the body, and desposed that death had resulted from acute peritonitis. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony.

Do you know which Henry is definitely your fella? The Tassie or Melbourne fella?

I think we need a look up in Tassie for young John and see if parents are Henry Owens and ?
