1A, London Rd, Stoke on Trent *COMPLETED*

Anyone know what 1A, London Rd, Stoke on Trent was in 1928? Found a burial at Hanley cemetery (my great grandfather's sister) and it says she died there but was resident at an address in Hanley.

Several others on the same page of burials also died there, so I wondered if it was a hospital? 

I have googled it but didn't find anything ...

Hi Deirdre:

Did some searching in 1911 and the closest I could see was a 'Workhouse, Hospital, and Infirmary' with a postal address of London Road, Newcastle, Staffs. in the civil parish of Stoke-on-Trent.

There were certainly quite a few patients there at that time.

The old City General Hospital in Stoke on Trent was always referred to as 'London Road' and although there is a brand new hospital now, older residents of the area still refer to it as London Road

Thanks Sami, she was still at home in 1911 (same address as listed in her burial), so maybe she had been ill. Assume (hope) it wasn't the workhouse as her husband was still at the same Hanley address, he died there in 1929.
