I think it's quite likely Jesse and Charlotte/Lottie GEARING. (Charlotte being Ada's oldest sister).

Not seeing a marriage for them at the moment but here's one of their sons:

Well done,
Jesse and Lottie also appear with 2 children on a passenger manifest from 1902 arriving in Boston from uk. These children are not uk born so they were probably visiting.
There could also be a BMD birth for what could be Jesse in Lewes in 1865.
Also there is an additional  passenger record for Ada in the Ellis Island records returning to the US from the UK as a widow.July 11th 1914

New York state census 1905 has Jesse with Lottie and 5 children in Rochester.

Also, Jesse baptised in Piddinghoe on 2nd April 1865. (Small Hamlet near Newhaven)

On the 1881 both families  are living in Northfleet 1 mile from each other. jesse being a labourer.
However I cannot find Charlotte at the moment on the census.

Thank you everyone! Especially Maureen who not ony cracked it but broke it wide open  ;D
I will now have to follow up on all your hard work.

The fate of Charles Lake had been puzzling me for ages and a chance search for Ada turned her up in the 1940 USA census.  Charles' complete change of occupation cast doubts on whether it was the same person but linking Jesse has, I think, just about sealed the case.  Charles was actually born Mark Lake and used a combination of Charles, Arthur and Mark as names through his life.  In the Rochester directories he lists himself as Charles M and is shown as dying 28 May 1913.

Once again thank you all for your help
