I thought it was Gaing

The line looks like Brother in law Jesse Gaing

but putting Gaing into family search gives no results which makes me think its wrong.

what the document, can it be worked out by the address through the US census or directories?

This is from a passenger list.  Jesse I am hoping is the brother in law to a brick wall on my tree.  Someone on another board gave me a link to Monroe directories and around 1906 108 Exchange Street, Rochester, Monroe, NY was a Salvation Army shelter/hotel/industrial home.  This makes me think that the address is an "office address"

Anyone know where I might find access to Salvation Army records?

Just for info, there are just under 2000 records of the surname "Gainey" in Rochester around that time.

Added: in 1897, 108 - 110 Exchange Street, Rochester, New York, was the address for the Rochester Bicycle Manufacturing Company.

Hi Wildtech

couple of things,

I take it that jesse is the next of kin on the passenger list. Then Jesses wife is the sister is the relative of the passenger. I guess that you have her name but been unable to find her marriage.  What was her name dob etc.
When did she arrive in America?
also
Rochester is an old town that is sure to have an archive, I would start with the Monroe County Library and look for their local history resources to reference the address. It will probably have links.

This is the passenger list for Charles and Ada Lake who I believe are from my family tree.  Jesse paid for them to travel to the USA in 1906 and his address is given as Charles and Ada's final destination.  Charles and Ada are in the 1910 census living in Rochester.  In the 1915 census Ada is still in Rochester but a widow.  Ada lives on until at least 1940.  IF it is the Charles and Ada of my family Charles married Ada Earley in London in 1902.  Charles' occupation up to that time had been in the dairy industry.  The Charles Lake on the passenger list is a labourer and in the 1910 census a wood worker.  Other details such as length of marriage and the fact that Charles was married twice and Ada once match.  If I could tie Jessie to either family I would consider it a done deal.

I suggest it might be Gains and Hoskins with a bit of redundancy in the lettering.
