Decipher name of elegant ladies Photo 1868

I still think the forename starts with Ch.
and ends with o - that final character is nothing like the e's in September?

My reading of it was that the second latter of the first name, which looks like an 'h', is actually an 'a' written very loosely i.e. not closed up on the right-hand side of the letter.

Could it be Candisso, like the name Candice? Though I would have expected a lady's name to end with an "a".

No it isn't, but even so, the name looks like 'Caroline' to me. It's the surname
which is giving me problems. Every variation I can think of fails to find her
in UK censuses. Perhaps I should be looking elsewhere.

There is a " Caroline Barthorp " who died in 1891 aged 61
Which may fit the age.. Any thoughts?

I think it says Caroline Barthorp (I was typing this at the same time as you John).

There is someone of this name on the censuses, born c.1835, living in London. She was married to Arthur Barthorp in 1861.

It might be helpful to see the front of the photo to see if that gives any clues as to where it was taken, photographer, etc.
