Thanks bristolloggerheads. I too found the entry in the Willey register. I love all the comments in there. I was sidetracked many times whilst looking.
The will still exists, but after being told that there is a £15 minimum charge for a copy from the microfiche I have put it on hold. I don't know how long I can hold out, but I keep telling myself that it will be written in Latin and I probably cannot read it anyway. The more I think about it, the more I convince myself that he isn't 'my' John Corbett. I know that the will may help me, but....
I have also found the entry in the Oxford University Alumni.

Thank you for looking.

By 1688 the will should be in English.

Or Greek  ;)

tofgem,

Have you considered posting on the Oxfordshire board?

It may be that a Rootschatter resident in Oxford or
travelling there in the near future would have time
to photograph the inscription for you, or have a look
at the will, even if only to check that it's readable.

vv.

Thanks for the suggestion vv. I feel guilty about making such a big 'ask'. I know that rootschatters are probably the most helpful group of people I have ever come across, but........ The will is held in the Oxford University archives, not the Oxford Record Office so I do not know how accessible it is. They have given me all the details (reference nos. etc) as in order to obtain a copy of the microfilm I have to complete the online form, send it firstly to the archives who will then authorise the copying and then forward it to the  Bodleian Library Imaging Services department who will make the copy.
I suppose that there is no harm in asking. Someone may be familiar with the process.
