Skehan - children of William Skehan & Margaret O'Donnell 1820-40
« on: Thursday 20 June 13 13:43 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm seeking some help regarding the marriage of Charles Francis Skehan and Laura Cecelia Sullivan on 23/11/1898 in Anderson, Indiana.

Charles's father was Patrick Francis Skehan, born 24/2/1840 in Tipperary, Ireland.

Patrick's parents were William Skehan and Margaret O'Donnell.

My own gg grandmother was Margaret Skehan, supposedly with the same parents as Patrick.
In my ancestor's collection of papers, I have an invitation for the wedding of Charles and Laura, addressed to Margaret's son and daughter-in-law.

The trouble is, the invitation is with me in Australia and I can't seem to find how Margaret Skehan is connected with Patrick Skehan ie if they were brother and sister, I can't find proof.

Any help would be appreciated

Do you know the parish/or townland  in Tipperary where Patrick Joseph was born/baptised?
It could help to identify a relevant parish register.

Hi

The family activity seems to be in Kilsheelan and I have found references to Kilneracy but I haven't been able to find that place. The only other references I have seen are for Clonmel.
Thanks for your help

the fact that the Marriage took place in Kilsheelan parish may be misleading to a point, as at that period in history, Marriages took place in the Bride to be's Parish, there were Skehans operating a pub in, Upper Irishtown Clonmel when i was a child, and there are still some of that Family  living in the, Old Bridge area of Clonmel, not a common local name in this area by any means, and Clonmel is but a good spit from Kilsheelan.
