Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Here is the birth reg

Getting his birth cert woul.d be the surest way of finding his parents.

But you may be able to find him with therm in 1911, sorry look ups not allowed.

Or you may find a Cant / Temple marriage on Freebmd, which would be a possible.

How did you know his mums maiden name was Temple?

Thanks for the quick reply. My father's middle name is his mother's maiden name. That's all I know as his parents died when he was very young,  his father when he was a child.

There's a possible marriage on FreeBMD but its quite early - 1890 in Newcastle -

James Cant - possible spouses include Catherine Temple - ref vol 10b page 151.

best wishes

Maria

This is great. Thank you so much Miriamkinga. This is possible the same family. Charles did have brothers called Robert and John and a sister called Elizabeth, but I believe John was the oldest as he joined up at 16 and was wounded in the war. There were two younger brothers Edward and James (who emigrated to Australia). However, I don't think Charles's father was ever a coal miner. He owned, or partly owned a livery stables and also a cinema at one time, and later became a publican.
