Thank you, Ammack, for your message. My direct family, thanks to help from Rootschat members, seems to have been in the North East of England since the 17th century, but given the number of children born to them it's more than possible that some of them went to Scotland, so maybe some distant relatives there.
Sorry I didn't reply earlier but I've  been away from this for a while

Little bit late to the party here (am in Search mode) but where / is there a Fowl Hall in NBL (transcribed place of birth for Charles in 1911 census)? According to the 1939 Reg, he was born in Sep 1901, just a few months after the 1901 census has them in Longbenton.

Seems to me they stopped baptising their kids after Thomas in Gosforth, 1899, so it's a bit harder to track their places of abode down. And they moved round A LOT.

Here's a pic of Kate Temple (my GG Aunty) I nicked off Ancestry btw

Edit to add: Never heard of James being a freemason, but checked on Ancestry - first result is for a Gentleman living in Gateshead 1902, but he's about 20 years too old. But other one is for a 36-year-old  manager living in the Cloth Market in 1907. At the end of the entry below is 'died 21/12/1909' - but this is at the end of a double-page spread where you can lose track of which line you're on and this is definitely the date that James died.
