Ashtons in Garston/Speke Lancashire and ?Widnes Cheshire

My mothers Aunty Mary (Molly) McC(h)rystal married Oswald (Ossie/Ozzie) Ashton in 1934 in Liverpool. And they seemingly had 8 children, including a set of twin girls, between 1934 and 1947.

The ashton history is important for a few reasons, 1) we know little of Mary and her family and would like to fill out the family tree. 2) Marys older brother Michael went to New York and we can't find his record of death etc, though we seem to have him on NYs 1940 census. and 3) Marys younger brother (my grandad) John Died in 1938 and we have little on him.  and 4) My mums grandparents John and Jane McC(h)rystal (nee Boyle) (from Ireland) lived with Oswald and Mary in their older years and we can't find Janes death and don't know about her past etc.

If you are related to this family or knew any of the people in the following list, could you let me know what you know so I can research them further?

Notes -

the 2nd, 3rd and 4th boys definitely went to St Francis of Assisi school, as my dad was at school with them.  Dad remembers they lived in Speke.  In later years they drank in Garston.

Kids names were (removed as they are apparently still all living)
x and x were twins.  At some stage they had a hairdressers shop in Widnes.  And Mary Definitely lived in Widnes as an adult at some point.

The boys were into motorbikes and drove in the TT Races in the Isle of Man.

My Grandma - Mums mum.

Grandad died in a car accident on september 30th 1938.
Florence was left widowed with 6 kids, soon to find out a 7th was on the way.
that 7th child was my mum, born on her late fathers birthday, june 6th 1939.

Mum passed away on 28th april this year.

I want to know if the accident made the papers, and also about the court case that followed (as it was a drunk driver who hit the car grandad was in).  But not sure where to start with that.

Hiya Angie - I know them well ....you should remove their names because as far as I know they are all alive ..I was having a pint with Tommy last year in The Childe of Hale - he lives in Canada and was home for a week to see his family - he never mentioned any had passed away - so I presume they are all still alive ...they lived in ** Rycot Road ,Speke as kids - I lived in 78 Rycot rd and grew up with them ...Neb Ashton ( Neb is a nickname ) was the only one I can remember that raced in the TT Races ,though as you say - they were all mororbike mad ....they all drunk in The Metal Box Social club - and Ossie lived until he ws about 90 ...a lovely man ....my brother may be able to give me some phone numbers for them ...I will let you know ...there may still be one of them in Rycot - I am not sure ...I will PM you if I get any personal details ...got to go the pub again now to find out ...lol....allan...ps ...I am going to google Neb Ashton just out of curiosity

LOL I don't need the internet just you for Garston/Speke family history Allan.

I don't even know what TT racing is    but my cousins seemed enthusiastic about the fact the ashtons were into it.

It would be great to get back in touch with them, I will keep looking round for them, but if you do find any could you let them know I am super keen to talk to them and get an email or postal address and direct them to my facebook too. if they are that way inclined.

Boyles are still a big mystery.  Jane Boyle married John Joseph McCrystal in Ireland, they had their eldest son michael in 1899ish and moved to L'pool.  Had Mary (molly ashton) and my grandad John between 1901 and 1904.  John, Jane, and the 3 kids are listed as living at 34 Clifton St when John jnr was 6ish. At the same address at the time, was a relative of Jane - Mary Boyle, aged 32 (Jane was 30).

I *think* more boyles came over from Ireland.  But am yet to properly research or find evidence.  I don't know Janes dads name, though it *could* be Hugh.
