Chadwick, Enniskerry
« on: Sunday 23 June 13 11:46 BST (UK) »
This is my first journey on this site !
We have a George Chadwick born abt1881 who married in 1909 a Elizabeth Sutton born abt 1890 ,Elizabeth had a brother George Sutton born abt 1888.They lived in Kilmalin Enniskerry.
Looking to find their respective families.
The Gaffney family name is connected, also I think Donoghue?

Hi Snaefell,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

It would be great if you could start off a new post and tell us more about what you know about George Chadwick and Elizabeth Sutton. Have you found the marriage certificate yet ??

Regards

Sarah

Hi and welcome  :)

Hopefully someone can split your post to begin a new thread as suggested. It is best to say what you already have e.g. census etc but from your post it looks as though you want to go back in their families - is that correct?

This looks like them in 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Queen_s_Co_/Errill/Ballagharahin/795629/

1901 for George
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Queen_s_Co_/Ballyfin/Ballyfin_Upper/1651027/

and a possibility for Lizzie in 1901 (going off her brother George)
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Powerscourt/Annacrivey/1812053/

You could send for the marriage certificate for further details of their father's names if you wished.

It looks to be Rathdown district December quarter 1909 volume 2 page 781

There is mention of them here by the looks of it. It may be your own posting but if not:
https://en-gb.facebook.com/EnniskerryLocalHistory

I hope this helps

Thank you for your reply.
I have found the 1911 census for George 1881 and Lizzie(nee Sutton )1890Chadwick.He being a Timber Carter at that time. Also living with them was a George Sutton 1888 the brother of Lizzie. He worked as a Gardener and went to London for a time to, (also as a gardener)He came back to live with his sister and husband and died in the late 50's.

I think I have found George in the 1901 census living with his mother Bridget Chadwick 1839 of Queens County (farmer). She is widowed and living with   son John Chadwick 1871 Queens County
                                                                          Thomas Chadwick 1879                  "
                                                                          George Chadwick  1881                  "
                                                  Daughter           Margaret Chadwick 1884                 "

In 1911 census Bridget Chadwick 1839 is still listed as farmer and is living with John Chadwick1871
and Thomas Chadwick 1879 her sons and a Grandson called William Hyland 1902  also of Queens County.George Chadwick now married and living with Lizzie Sutton as above in 1911 census.

I dont have any marriage certificate for them. They were married in 1909 Rathdown.

For Lizzie Suttons' family I have found what I believe to be her family in the 1901-1911 census.
Father Joseph Sutton1846 House plasterer Co.Wicklow.
Mother Mary Sutton 1864 Laundress             "
George Sutton 1888                                    "
Lizzie Sutton 1889                                      "
Ellen Sutton 1891                                       "
Joseph Sutton 1893                                    "

1911 census George and Lizzie not listed.(Lizzie now married to George Chadwick1881)
Joseph and Mary still have Ellen and Joseph living at home and another son born 1902 John Sutton.

Joseph and Mary Sutton married 1888.

I hope this makes sense.
I'm just starting out on finding our Irish connection,so not to sure how much information might be available for me to find.
I have been on the Enniskerry local history site (as you thought)after finding a couple of photos that I was able to name a couple of people.
Regards Snaefell

Hello again,

your information looks good  :)

You can send for birth/marriage certificates which would give you a bit more information. This site explains  http://www.groireland.ie/

Family Search https://familysearch.org/search  has Irish civil BMD records- although you have to cross match names to get a reference number.

I can't see a marriage for Joseph and Mary in 1888. What is Mary's maiden name?
Ancestry hs the same indexes but that is a subscription site.

Hi dathai,
Thanks for that. I looked but they are different quarters- same volume/page.
However there is a match with Joseph Sutton and Mary Gaffney and Snaefell mentions Gaffney as a connection.

Hello Heywood,
On 1911 census against Marys' name it says she has been married 23 years, hence about 1888.

Thank you for info on how to apply for certificate ,will now see if I can send for it.
Regards Snaefell.
