Hammersmith baptisms
« on: Wednesday 26 June 13 14:10 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the baptism for a child born 7th February 1879 in Hammersmith,London. Her christian name is Ellen but there are many surnames given for this child. It could be Merchant Barnes/Marchant Barnes/Murphy or even Welsh/Walsh/McCarthy. I know this is a long shot but hope someone may be able to help me.
Thank you.

Do you have her on any census?
Parent's names?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

I have a full family history for this person except her baptism including census returns, marriage and death certificate. I was hoping that if I found her baptism I may find more out about her parents.

Hammersmith came under the Kensington registration district.

So maybe?

March qtr 1879
Kensington district    vol 1a, page 114

McCarthy, Ellen

But I fail to see a link between all those surnames? ???

HI,

She might not have been baptised or baptised as an adult; if she was Roman Catholic.....their registers are not online.

Entries in the baptism register show much the same details as a birth certificate; names of parents, address, occupation of father.

The link to names:- All used by her mother Elizabeth at different times in her life. Father unkown.
This is a very complex family with many children and different fathers. I have already purchased the certificate for the Ellen McCarthy mentioned - thank you - but it is the wrong one.
