Thanks Lisa,

John DENMAN married Amy PINNEY on 25 October 1762 at Holy Trinity Nailsea (Groom parish Kenn, Bride parish Nailsea). They had children at Curry Rivel from 1766 (that I have found) including John bap 4 May 1774. (John snr died at Curry Rivel in 1817 aged 82).

Do you know for sure where John who married Frances LONG was born? I haven't found any reference to it being at Lopen?

(These are all on Free Reg too)

So just checking ... there isn't actually any evidence that John who married Frances was born at Lopen?

John Denman Buried 24 Oct 1750 at Lopen and Rebecca Salsbury his wife 11 Jan 1760 at Lopen. John Bap 1721 I put the wrong baptism for John above, Thomas Bap 1727, Andrew Bap 1730, Frances Bap 1734 all baptised Lopen. Their son John in question baptised 28 Aug 1721 Lopen as above, buried Lopen 30 Apr 1786. Margaret buried 1 Nov 1819 Lopen. All can be found on FreeReg also

Thanks Lisa, but couldn't John who married Frances LONG be John bap 1874 at Curry Rivel? I can't see any definite link to John bap 1876 at Lopen. He doesn,t have father's name or occupation on the marriage record, and from what I can see we're just looking for someone born around the right area and time - which gives a few options, not just Lopen?  ???

In late 1800's they didn't always put the fathers or mothers name on the certificate of marriage. The Denman family were from around the South Petherton/Lopen area I haven't come across a Curry Rivel Denman connection in this main line since Elizabeth Hillard (wife of Andrew) who was baptised at Curry Rivel in 1614 even though her family are traced to South Petherton. I am confident this John from Lopen is correct. The baptism at All Saints Lopen Somerset and says father John and mother Margaret . I think the name Amy Penny was given because they all knew each other because they are family and possibly friends.

Thanks for your reply Lisa, I think we might have to agree to differ. In the absence of any actual evidence, I think John jnr's place of birth and parents will only remain a possibility, especially with there being a number of DENMAN families in the area.

Hi I'm happy with that. Time might prove differently and a Will might fix the whole problem but I have never come across one to date.
