James Scullion b 18 June 1908 Help Please
« on: Saturday 29 June 13 14:37 BST (UK) »
Help please,

Looking for help please tracing what happened to a distant cousin of mine.

James Scullion born 18 June 1908 Possilpark, Glasgow
Father was Jeremiah Scullion and mother Ellen Church ( I hve seen all the family trees on Ancestry and know all about his family).

In 1936 he married Susan McDaid in Possilpark, his address at the time was 159 Allander Street, Glasgow.   He was a pastry cook. Alexander Scullion , same address was a witness at the wedding.

In 1950 Susan McDaid Scullion emigrated to USA ( I know all about her ) BUT James did not go with her.

What happened to him, did they have any children, I cannot discover. I have been told he died in the pits ??? ( but he was a cook ?) . I have found one death for a James Scullion in 1976 but don't know whether it is him?

Can anyone help please.

If they had children - they would have been young enough to have travelled with Susan given the marriage was 1936 and the emigration 1950

Have you sighted the passenger list for Susan?

The 1976 death matches to a mothers maiden name of Church

Hi , yes you are right about children. I don't think she had any, if she did they did not go to USA. I cannot find her on a passenger list surprisingly as I have found hundreds of other relatives but know that she was naturalised in Boston 19 March 1956 ( you had to live in USA a certain no. of years before naturalisation I think I remember  - living at 20 Haviland St. Boston.

Ah that's brilliant confirming the death and his mothers name - it shows Martha street Glasgow - is that still the Possilpark area ?

Have to try and search again for Susans passenger record

Thank you for help

Martha Street is where the Registrar's office is, it covers most, if not all of Glasgow. It is in the middle of the city, not in Possilpark.

Thank you for info, looks like she travelled down to Boston via Canada . Not unusual. Timescale exactly fits. Is Holland rd, Possilpark area.

Are you sure it's Holland Road and not Holland Street?

Ive just ordered James Scullions death record for 1976, all my family knew Susan and her mother in USA, she never mentioned she was married.
