1903 - Golore?, Bracadale, W of Peggie MacKinnon, Crofter, 84yrs, parents Norman & Rachel Gillies, registered by Rachel MacLeod (Daughter)

I'm going to see where the nearest Hospital was as he may have died in hosp & registered in that area?

Thanks Fifer,

A quick glance earlier brought up Portree (workhouse/hosp) as a possibility - not looked into it yet.

I forgot to say I checked SP and I'd not put a forename in - left it open to both sexes & surname soundex so best option at the time.

There are 2 Niel Mcleod marriages on 17 January 1839 @ Bracadale both females surnames start Mc* (but not McLean) one has the forename Christian.  Would this not tie in with Monica's 1841 finding?

Sorry Fifer,

I didn't notice this post. I've suspected from the beginning this Roderick Gordon to be a mystery & have tried him with 3 surnames in the beginning posts (MacLeod, MacLean & Gordon) but will check out they marriages. It still won't tell me if I have the right man but will help if I can identify someone regardless who as Roderick's mother & potential father. If I can find a Roderick to either of they 2 unities then we might be cooking at long last  ???

Sods law right enough. 12 potential kids names and the one I need to move up the ladder is the one who's a mystery child  ::)

I have been dealing with South Uist B, M & D's for yrs now with the same traits, same names so I know what it's like & what I'm up against and as bad luck would have it - not found anyone else following Rodericks line  ;D

There's one thing, Roderick is definitely in the right place for being a "black sheep"  :P

Hi Ammack,
Please check my McLean/Brady family tree on ancestry, under anniemac54, have found most of the McLeod's, including marriage of Neil & Christy, but cannot verify Christy,s death, or find anything on Neil's death.

Although I have found him living with his daughter Janet McSwan in a census, very frustrating as numerous searches on Scotlands People has drawn a blank.

Flora Maclean, (nee McLeod) was my G Grandmother, who married Alexander MacLean, and I can confirm that Flora, Janet and Marion were triplets, this was the breaking information needed as McLeod's are numerous on the island.

Hope this helps.

Neil McLean
