Apologies for mixing up the reference to "Five Bells Field". Should simply have read "... The Five Bells, Ewenny Road ...... opposite the cricket and football club"     ,

I have found 5 references to the Five Bells Field(s) - used for sporting or social activities - between May 1887 and Aug 1892 - nothing after that. One reference places it "....opposite the Five Bells".

When the pub was being sold in Aug 1890 its location was described as "...Ewenny Road, Bridgend, opposite the cricket and football ground"

The 1875 map has an large open area opposite the pub (alongside South St). On the 1885 map it is largely unchanged. But by the 1899 map a large part of the area had disappeared with the further development of South St and the creation of St Marie St.

Sorry for any confusion.
