Where is Sophia?

My wife's grandfather, LOUIS FRANK ROBSON as a 3 year old was listed in the 1881 Census as living with William and Sophia Sharman at 6 Braybrooke Terrace, Aldershot. Hampshire. His mother Eliza Robson is not mentioned.

We do not know why LOUIS FRANK [aka Frank Louis] Robson was living with the Sharmans and not with his mother. It has been suggested that SOPHIA SHARMAN may have been related to ELIZA.

The 1881 Census lists Sophia as having been born in 1834 in Chilbolton, Hampshire. I have tried to find Sophia's maiden name, birth date, birth place and her parents names without success so far.

Can someone please help to find Sophia and her details for us?

Could she have been SOPHIA SMITH?

The IGI (extract) shows a Sophia Smith, daughter of William Smith who married a William Sharman (son of Manning Sharman) 9th April 1860 at Saint Thomas, Winchester, Hampshire England. Sophia’s age is given as 26 (b. 1834) and William’s as 24 (b. 1836)

The 1861 Census shows William Sharman as a Coachman living in Winchester St Thomas, Hampshire - not far from Aldershot - with his wife Sophia and a WILLIAM SMITH relationship - Relative, born about 1857 in Chabrlton, (think this is a typo on orginal) Hampshire, England. Also living there is an Emma Newing - relative born about 1852 in Chillalton, Hampshire, England. (Maybe another typo - but both close enough to Chilbolton

Sounds very likely, as Sidney becomes a Smith too by 1881 (William Sidney Smith, Adopted son)!

Thank you all for your efforts. I will endeavour to follow through on these suggestions. I was hoping that this would be an easy follow through and that SOPHIA would have been a sister of ELIZA ROBSON. That would have given us a reason why LOUIS FRANK ROBSON, age 3 years was living with the Sharmans.

Sometimes the "brick walls" just crumble before you, other times you have to keep trying to find a way around them.
