1861 Census
« on: Sunday 12 June 05 08:59 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Is there someone who can look up the 1861 Census for Buckhaven Please.

I am trying to locate
George WALLACE  H  M 70   Born Glasgow Lanark
Agnes WALLACE    W M  70  B          "            "
Mary Wallace    D 36    H L W    "          "
George Wallace S 30   H L W                 "       "

I have this family in the 41 & 51 Census for Buckhaven But the two George Wallace were missing.

Did the Linen Mill work a night shift?

Agnes is head of household in 51 and married so she was not a widow. I know Agnes was still alive in 1867 but george was deceased.

Iam trying to narrow down the years for his death.
Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks
Margaret

There are 8 George Wallaces who died in Fife before 1867 on SP's index but none in Buckhaven and none in the right age group. The oldest was 63 and died in Largo, Fife in 1866. Except for another who was 25, all the rest were children.

I don't think Agnes died in Buckhaven either, there are 5 on the index but again, all the ages are too far out.

Hi Lindsay,

Many thanks for that information. It confirms what I suspected re the deaths of George & Agnes as i was having trouble trying to locate them.

I am still keen to know if they were still in Buckhaven in 1861.

The daughter Mary continued to stay in Buckhaven  i have her traced till her death but have not got hold of the 1861 information. Mary remained single but with one child.

regards
Margaret.
