It also looks as though George is still alive in 1871, a boarder in the parish of Old Deer with the Clark family and still an agricultural labourer. His year of birth in 1861 and 1871 has been transcribed as 1813. In 1851 it is 1817 but in all three censuses his parish of birth is given as Slains.

****** transcriptions! His year of birth has not been transcribed, because the year of birth is never recorded in the available census. The transcriber has (probably mis)calculated the year of birth from the age stated in the census. As I have often banged on about before, this produces a wrong answer three times out of four.

If his age is listed as 48 in 1861, and assuming that age to be accurate, his year of birth is most likely to be 1812 not 1813.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

It would be best to wait & see if there is any information in the Poor Relief Records. In the Application for Poor Relief it will give details of the family's circumstances & will mention the date of the parent's death. It will also show the ages of any children, dependents, & also those working. As Alexander was born before 1855 there will be no birth certificate to look for. It is possible that Elizabeth also died before 1855 & therefore there will not be a death certificate either.
