William MIDDLETON b. c1837 Aberdeen
« on: Sunday 12 June 05 12:14 BST (UK) »
William MIDDLETON was a photographer in the Sheffield area from c. 1879 until the 1890s.  He was managing partner for several branches of the country-wide firm of A & G Taylor's studios, and took over the operation of the Derby studio for at least a few years c. 1899-1901.

William Middleton was, according to the 1881-1901 Census records, born between 1836 and 1838 in Aberdeen, Scotland.  He does not appear in UK census records prior to 1881, and married his wife Jane (b. c.1834-35 Calder Bridge, Cumberland) also prior to 1881.

I am researching this photographer as part of the compilation of a profile on my web site devoted to Victorian & Edwardian Derbyshire Photographers and Photographic Studios, and would be very grateful for any sightings of him in Aberdeen.  In particular, I am looking for his birth/baptism, and the names of his parents.  I believe he may have had a brother Peter MIDDLETON born c. 1826.

Thank you very much for your time and interest.  regards and best wishes,

Brett Payne

Dear GEN10,

Thank you very much indeed for going to the trouble of looking up this family for me.  There seems little doubt that this is the family of "my" William MIDDLETON, and I'm very grateful for your help.  It also ties in William MIDDLETON with his brother Peter b. c.1826, who ended up in London by 1861.  I suspect that's where William went to first, too, before settleing in the Sheffield area in the late 1870s.  :)

Regards and best wishes,  Brett
