1911 census - help please
« on: Wednesday 10 July 13 20:57 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am looking for Mary Robertson who was born in 1843 in Rescobie, Forfar. She died in the 1920's in Blairgowrie but i can't find her on the 1911 census. Her husband died in 1905 so she won't be living with him. She also doesn't appear on any of the 1911 census living with her children's families. When her husband died in 1905 she was living in Glamis but wouldn't have stayed there as he was the farm grieve and it is unlikely she would have lived there alone.

Any help appreciated.
Jim

Hi Jim,

Requests for look-ups on the 1911 census are not allowed on RootsChat.

However, there are plenty of suggestions and advice on this thread but you may have already covered those options.

Hi Sandra

Requests for the 1911 Scottish census are allowed. It's just the England and Wales 1911 that the restriction applies to  :)

Added -had a quick look, Jim, but can't spot her immediately. Difficult if her age has been mis-transcribed  :-\

Even the advice in the so-called "Official 1911 Census" site is at best not much use, and at worst positively misleading, as far as the 1911 census of Scotland and the 1911 census of Ireland and the 1911 census of Canada are concerned.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Totally agree, Forfarian.  I think that maybe *Sandra*  didn't see that the original request was for the Scottish 1911.

I think that maybe her son, William,  is on the same page (next door but one): Aged 38, born Kirriemuir. Farm Manager. married to Annie (added - I think she was m.s.  Louden, married 1896, Panbride).

PM me your e-mail address  :)
