I didn't even know about the Old Search till I saw it mentioned on Rootschat a few months ago - what a breath of fresh air! It not only brought up my ancestor first on the list  - but of course his sons who had the same name later on the list, I found loads more information that way. I only get a month's sub at a time so I'm not really a subscriber, but good luck to all of you trying to get them to change their mind.

Quick ... could somebody tell me how to do the old search before they take it away.

I joined them last year to start on the English side of my tree and I have struggled with it. I thought i should have joined FindMyPast instead as it was easier to use.

It is so different to Scotlands People.

I thought I was just being thick and couldn't understand how others found so much on it.

Please tell me how and I can escape the heat and stay insie today with good reason !

Hit the search button at the top of the home page, and in the top right hand corner you will see old search

Hi

The 2% probably relates to the number of searches conducted rather than the number of subscribers, access via various libraries and institutions etc are most likely limited to the New Search only so that, along with the ordinary subscribers who use New Search, could well mean that the figure is accurate.

Whilst I prefer and use Old Search I'm not surprised that it is disappearing, it costs time and money to maintain two search options as every database added or updated has to be made accessable to both options, this means additional programming.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if it reflects number of actual searches.  I would say that one search using Old Search may provide the information that would take very many searches using the New Search option. People using New Search probably have to do a lot more searches to find what they need.

I have put this on Facebook so come on Roots hit the button

Ancestry are trying to discontinue the old search, if they do I will cancel my sub, I have just done a few tests on the new search and what a load of rubbish it brings up, if you don't want the old search to go, please HIT THE LIKE BUTTON

I apologise in advance if I contravened any rules
